Final Thoughts
What began as a simple attempt to replace a sloper turned into a much more interesting Topband project. The phased vertical system is still relatively simple, but it has already transformed my experience on 160 meters.
Instead of treating Topband as a place to grab a few contest multipliers, I now find myself actively watching the band for openings — especially to Europe during the winter months. When conditions line up and signals start rising out of the noise, 160 meters becomes one of the most exciting bands in amateur radio.
With the second vertical now nearly operational, I am looking forward to seeing what the full phased system can do during the upcoming Topband season.
There is something uniquely satisfying about hearing a weak DX station on 160 meters, calling them a few times, and finally hearing your call come back through the noise.
That moment is what keeps many of us coming back to Topband.
